Making Disclosure A Reality For Healthcare Organizations

G.I. Bill of Rights for Medical Professionals in COVID-19 Battle?  Please Forward and Share....

GI Bill of Rights.jpg

American physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals are literally being sent to war. Stories abound of clinicians updating their wills --- just like troops heading off to battle. Several healthcare professionals have already died, and many more will pass away during this fight. Those who survive will be changed forever.

Physicians and nurses have our gratitude and public expressions of thanks are cropping up everywhere. However, our medical heroes deserve more than words. Medical professionals are putting themselves in harm’s way, no different than the troops who stormed beaches or flew bomber runs during WWII.  Perhaps it is time for the federal government to consider a “G.I. Bill of Rights for Medical Professionals Involved in the COVID-19 Fight?

The ink is barely dry on the $2 trillion stimulus package, yet several media outlets are reporting the federal government is hurriedly assembling a fourth stimulus package. The G.I. Bill of Rights for Medical Professionals could be part of this legislation.

A G.I. Bill of Rights for Medical Professionals in the COVID-19 Fight could have many provisions, including:

  • student loan debt forgiveness;

  • reimbursement of expenses related to the pandemic, including emergency child care expenses, updating (or making) of wills, etc.

  • free college education for orphans of medical professionals who die during COVID-19 pandemic;

  • cash assistance and other benefits for families of clinicians who perish;

  • educational training grants, low interest home mortgages, and small business loans for COVID-19 veterans;

  • contributions to the 401K plans of physicians and nurses returning from retirement to serve during the pandemic.

Some Democrats pushed for student loan forgiveness in the recently passed stimulus package, but it was not part of the final legislation.  Our proposal for student debt relief and much more for medical professionals risking their lives during this crisis should be supported by both parties.

America’s medical soldiers are truly no different than the troops who have fought and died for our country. And just like the troops in uniform, our clinicians should be appropriately thanked for their service and encouraged to keep up the fight.

To build support for this worthy idea, please like, forward, and share this social media post with colleagues, especially governmental relations professionals with medical and hospital associations.  Please help us!!
