Making Disclosure A Reality For Healthcare Organizations 

Research Project Studies Successful Adoption of Disclosure/CRP Programs

A recent study published in the Journal of Patient Safety and Risk Management assessed how Disclosure/CRP programs were successfully adopted and sustained.  "How U.S. Teams advanced communication and resolution program adoption at local, state, and national levels" was written by Florence LeCraw, Sally Stearns, and Michael McCoy.  Sorry Works! readers should be familiar with LeCraw as she and her team published an important study a couple years ago showing that disclosure and apology programs worked at Erlanger Healthcare System, currently the 10th largest public healthcare system in the U.S.

In the current study, LeCraw, Stearns, and McCoy argue that successful adoption of disclosure/CRP program depends heavily on local champions within health care organizations. These champions convince colleagues to try disclosure and foster the program through all the necessary steps, including sustaining the culture. LeCraw et. al interviewed several disclosure/CRP programs leaders across the country to develop their paper.
