Making Disclosure A Reality For Healthcare Organizations

Research Project Studying Medical Injury Needs Final Five (5) Participants...Can You Help??

jeff driver.jpg

Over the last few months we’ve shared information with Sorry Works! readers concerning a research project about medical injury that needed volunteers.  Many of you responded and helped this valuable project – thank you!

Today, the final five (5) volunteers are needed to complete the studyCan you help?

The project is led by Jeff Driver, JD, who directed Stanford’s successful disclosure/CRP program for many years.  Jeff's project is: “Recovery and Reconciliation After Patient Medical Injury.”  If you want to learn more about the research project or if you are personally interested in volunteering, please contact Jeff directly at jfd67@case.edu or calling 602.245.1200.

Also, please forward this e-newsletter to colleagues and friends...help us spread the word and find the final five (5) participants for this valuable project!

Project Details
Jeff seeks to understand the long-term feelings, emotions, and recovery of those impacted by adverse medical events (both consumers and clinicians), and how healthcare organizations can do a better job helping everyone heal after something goes wrong.  Jeff wants to interview forty (40) patients, families, physicians and clinicians who have lived through adverse events. This is not a huge time commitment…one confidential interview lasting approximately 60 minutes and a potential follow up call to clarify points and ensure accuracy.  The study seeks volunteers who experienced an adverse medical event at least five years ago (or greater than five years ago).  The research project has been approved by the IRB at Case Western Reserve University, so it meets all ethical and legal guidelines. A more detailed outline of the project is available below my signature box.

If you want to learn more about the research project or if you personally are interested in being interviewed, please contact Jeff directly at jfd67@case.edu or calling 602.245.1200.

Sincerely,

     - Doug

PROFESSIONAL NETWORK
VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT FOR RESEARCH STUDY
Researchers at Case Western Reserve University are recruiting volunteers for possible participation in a research study to understand long-term recovery, reconciliation, and restorative justice after patient medical injury.

Volunteers Requested

  1. Patients that experienced a medical injury where the medical injury event was at least five (5) years ago.

  2. Immediate family members of patients that experienced a medical injury where the patient is less than 18 years old or the patient did not survive the medical injury and where the medical injury event was at least five (5) years ago.

  3. Physicians involved in a patient medical injury event and where the medical injury event was at least five (5) years ago.

  4. Caregivers involved in a patient medical injury event (e.g. nurse, paramedic, respiratory therapist, etc.) and where the medical injury event was at least five (5) years ago.

    Procedures and Duration
Volunteers that agree to participate in this research, would do the following things:

  1. Participate in an interview lasting approximately 60 minutes. It is recommended that the interview will be conducted during your personal time outside of work hours and at a location other than your place of employment.

  2. Agree to a confidential audio recording to transcribe a de-identified record of the interview to ensure accuracy in recording your remarks

  3. Potentially agree to a follow-up call, only if necessary, to clarify points and to ensure accuracy. Any such call would take place within two weeks of the original interview, last no more than 30 minutes and will not be audio recorded.

If you are interested in volunteering for participation in this research study, please contact the co-investigator directly: Jeff Driver at jfd67@case.edu or by calling (602) 245-1200.
